Senate Approves Probation Bills

PROVIDENCE \x97 Six bills intended to reduce the state’s high probation rate that were left hanging in political bargaining at the end of last year’s legislative session unanimously cleared the Senate Thursday.

The legislation covers everything from relaxing penalties for felony assault with a weapon other than a firearm to more thoroughly screening inmates for mental health treatment.
