SURGING optimism that Britain can beat Covid within months and finally move on from Brexit propelled the pound to a two-and-a-half-year high against the dollar on the final day of 2020.
Sterling climbed to as much as $1.3686 yesterday before falling back to $1.3654, a 0.21pc gain from Wednes day's close.
