No lake, for safety's sake
Ohio State University has pulled the plug on Mirror Lake.
The iconic lake in the heart of the main campus has been drained ahead of the university's rivalry game against Michigan on Saturday.
University officials notified students this month that the lake was being drained "out of an abundance of caution and with the university's focus on safety at top of mind."
The Mirror Lake District reopened at the beginning of the school year after a two-year, $8.5 million renovation.
The project, intended to return the lake to its more natural roots, removed its former brick bottom and concrete and stone barriers. The lake now has a clay bottom and edges, and it has more vegetation surrounding it.
