NM legislators consider bill to create competitive energy markets

A bill introduced in the New Mexico Legislature would create competitive retail electric markets in which customers in municipalities, counties or tribal jurisdictions could form local energy groups to purchase and supply power.

The Local Choice Energy Act, introduced by Senate Democrats Jeff Steinborn and Benny Shendo Jr., would empower so-called local choice energy providers to procure electric generation on behalf of customers.
