Two modes of transportation simultaneously gave commuters headaches Wednesday during the height of the morning rush in Northern Virginia.

The toll for solo drivers along a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 66 inside the Beltway surged to at least $47.

Riders on Metro's Orange and Silver lines faced lengthy delays after a train had a brake problem at a key interlocking point at the Ballston station. The transit agency shut down rail service on a segment of the lines for about an hour.
