Lead levels spark thyme blend recall Food safety

A Michigan importer is recalling a dried thyme blend from Syria after tests showed excessive levels of lead. So far, two people linked to the product have been diagnosed with high levels of lead in their blood.

Aroma Imports of Dearborn Heights, Mich., recalled Nabelsi brand thyme in 450-gram and 4.5-gram packages after testing by officials of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Health Protection and Illinois Department of Public Health.
