Victims of failed pension investments have been given a lifeline by a landmark decision that could see pension firms forced to pay compensation for the first time.

The Financial Ombudsman Service ruled in favour of five individuals who lost £100,000 after investing in a plantation in Costa Rica that was destroyed by a hurricane.
