The UK’s blue-chip index rose marginally to 6,132 points. The FTSE 250 of slightly smaller firms was also flat.

In Asia overnight, China’s CSI 300 fell 0.5 per cent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.1 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 0.3 per cent.
