The Philadelphia Flyers signed the veteran center Vincent Lecavalier to a five-year contract. The Tampa Bay Lightning cut ties with Lecavalier, their 33-year-old captain, last week to clear salary cap space. Drafted No. 1 over all by the Lightning in 1998, he helped the franchise win the Stanley Cup in 2004 and scored a franchise-high 383 goals. The Flyers also released forward Danny Briere and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.
