Former Fair Work Commission vice-president Graeme Watson has lost a bid to avoid $30,000 in tax after arguing he had the rank of a Federal Court judge and shouldn't be required to pay.

Commissioner of Taxation Chris Jordan said Mr Watson was required to pay division 293 tax for the 2014 and 2015 income years, because of taxable super contributions higher than $300,000.
