Bishop may ease morality stance
Oakland Bishop Michael Barber is reconsidering the controversial morality clause he ordered to be inserted into the contracts of Catholic school educators in the East Bay this year.
Several teachers did not sign the contract or left their jobs because of new clause, which requires that teachers adhere to church teachings in their private as well as professional lives. Roughly 18 percent of the diocese's 1,217 teachers are not Catholic.
