A Green Card is an internationally recognised insurance document. Irish-registered vehicles are currently covered by the terms of the EU Motor Insurance Directive when they are driven in the EU region.
The Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) has said that motorists could have to carry 'proof of insurance' Green Cards if they are travelling in the UK and Northern Ireland.
