FOUNDED AS THE ITHACA CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC IN 1892, ITHACA COLLEGE BECAME A NONPROFIT, PRIVATE COLLEGE IN 1931. DURING THE EARLY DECADES OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM EXPANDED TO INCLUDE OTHER PROFESSIONAL FIELDS, AND AT MID-CENTURY, THE INSTITUTION BEGAN DEVELOPING THE LIBERAL ARTS CURRICULA THAT HAVE GRADUALLY EVOLVED INTO THE LARGE AND DIVERSE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SCIENCES. AS A RESULT OF THIS UNUSUAL HISTORY OF INTERWEAVING, TWO DISTINCT PROGRAMS, PROFESSIONAL AND LIBERAL STUDIES AT ITHACA COLLEGE ARE TODAY MUTUALLY SUPPORTIVE AND INTEGRAL PARTS OF A TOTAL ACADEMIC PROGRAM.ITHACA COLLEGE IS A FULLY ACCREDITED, COEDUCATIONAL, NONDENOMINATIONAL INSTITUTION OFFERING A BROADLY DIVERSIFIED PROGRAM OF PROFESSIONAL AND LIBERAL ARTS STUDIES.
