We operate the leading real name social networking internet platform in China. Renren, which means 'Everyone' in Chinese, enables users to connect and communicate with each other, share information and user generated content, play online games, listen to music, shop for deals and enjoy a wide range of other features and services. Renren's platform includes the main social networking website renren.com, the online games center game.renren.com, the social commerce website nuomi.com, and the video sharing website, 56.com. We had approximately 172 million activated users as of September 30, 2012.
We were one of the first few companies to recognize the pivotal importance of mobile internet and start transforming our Company DNA to become a mobile-centric social network services provider. From 2011 on, we have launched mobile versions of all of our principal products on every mobile operating system. Renren was the first company to offer PC and mobile cross-platform games and became the number one game publisher in Apple’s China App Store by downloads by September 2012. We have also grown into one of the largest location-based services (LBS) providers in China in terms of cumulative user-generated content containing LBS information, as well as number of partnering merchants and promotions through our LBS commercial open platform.
We currently generate revenues from online advertising and internet value-added services (IVAS). Our IVAS revenues are comprised of online games revenues and other IVAS revenues, which includes VIP memberships, social commerce revenues from merchants on nuomi.com, and fees we earn from 56.com.
Our vision is to re-define the social networking experience and revolutionize the way people in China connect, communicate, entertain and shop. To achieve this, we are focused on providing a highly engaging and interactive platform through technology that promotes connectivity, communication and sharing amongst our users. Renren.com continues to be the leading real name social networking service providers in China according to third party research.
Our market leadership stems from our track record of innovation and pioneering role in China's social networking service industry. The Company’s SNS business started in 2005 under its prior name Xiaonei, which meant “On Campus”, synonymous to its initial roots within universities. The social network originally focused on students in elite universities but has since expanded its demographics into college-bound high school students and young professionals nationally. In 2010, we were the first in China to launch Renren Open Platform program, Renren Connect program, and Renren Desktop client application, all of which have improved the quality of our user experience and subsequently became a standard throughout the industry. We constantly look for ways to meet our user needs by offering them the most complete set of products and services possible, including group-buy, light-blogging and video-sharing services. In China, the popularity of social networking is driven by a massive addressable user base, the growing availability of internet access and favorable internet usage trends. China already has the largest internet user and mobile user populations in the world, and these user populations are forecasted to continue to grow. We believe that our real name user base, attractive demographics, openness of our platforms, and high user engagement levels on both PC and mobile are the four key strengths contributing to Renren's success and differentiating us from our competitors.
Renren is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RENN.
