The US Federal Reserve has successfully reclaimed its traditional authority over financial markets, a further sign that the post-financial crisis era of wild experimentation in monetary policy has come to an end.

As Jeffrey Gundlach, who runs the $US100 billion US fund manager DoubleLine Capital, pointed out in his latest investor webcast, the bond market is now treating the utterances of senior Fed officials with a lot more respect than it has for a very long time.
