Personal genomics startup 23andMe Inc. and quote-to-cash software provider Apttus Inc. are the latest Silicon Valley unicorns to raise big funding rounds rather than go public.

The $250 million growth round by Mountain View-based 23andMe came in larger than expected and reportedly boosted 23andMe's valuation to $1.75 billion from the $1.1 billion it was last figured to be worth.
