Study: VW emissions will lead to 1,200 premature deaths

Volkswagen’s decision to skirt regulators and allow its diesel vehicles to perform better and drive faster at the expense of increased emissions beyond the legal limit will lead to more than 1,200 premature deaths, according to MIT researchers.

In a paper published today, researchers at MIT, Harvard and Hasselt University in Belgium estimate the added pollution from the VW cars will lead to 1,200 premature deaths in Europe, and another 60 in the U.S.
