Snow dusts area peaks, closes roads in Sierra

A cold front that swept through Northern California left a rare dusting of snow on the peaks of Mount Diablo and Mount Hamilton in the Bay Area on Monday, but triggered avalanche warnings and road closures that persisted throughout the day in the Sierra.

It was one of a handful of times snow has come to the Bay Area this winter.

"Most of the storms we had were very warm and subtropical in nature, with snow levels above 8,000 feet," said Steve Anderson, a forecaster with the National
