PE funds worried about bad press

Australia's top private equity funds say they need to do more to counter the bad press the industry has attracted from selling assets to the public that have resulted in large losses for investors.

The buyout industry is suffering from an image problem as initial public offerings in companies such as Dick Smith and Scottish Pacific, which allowed private equity to sell out, bombed for the shareholders who bought in.
