Meeting Eleanor Roosevelt

Dear Diary:

In the fall of my senior year at the Roosevelt School in Stamford, Conn., I was chosen along with other class officers to make a trip to Manhattan to visit Eleanor Roosevelt.

My school had been named for her late husband, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Mrs. Roosevelt had graciously traveled to Stamford every year to visit students and lecture on many subjects.

In the last year of her life, she was too frail to make the trip, so we traveled to a hotel
