Fifteen years after the Australian government signed on as part of the Joint Strike Fighter program that will deliver a fifth-generation fighter, the F-35 was the star of the recent Avalon Air Show.

The appearance of the Lockheed Martin stealth fighters in Australia was been long anticipated and comes in advance of their official delivery to the Australian government in 2018, which will eventually build to a fleet of 72, for a cost announced at $17 billion.
