The Trump administration reportedly wants to narrow the scope of Department of Homeland Security program to identify violent extremists who pose a potential terrorist threat. Under the plan, it would focus on "radical Islamic extremism" and drop its attention on white supremacist groups, according to a report by the Reuters news agency.

This would be a huge mistake. White supremacist groups have fomented hate and anger that has turned deadly. They, too, merit close monitoring.
