Gale Sayers Has Dementia, His Family Says

Relatives of the Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers say he has a diagnosis of dementia. His wife, Ardythe Sayers, told The Kansas City Star that her 73-year-old husband received the diagnosis four years ago and that she blamed Sayers’s football career. He played for the Chicago Bears for seven seasons starting in 1965 after setting records at the University of Kansas.
