Deadline extension rejected for Milwaukee streetcar contract

Milwaukee aldermen on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted down a proposal to extend the deadline for the contract to run the city streetcar.

The city action means that, if the Milwaukee County Transit System operator wants to compete for the streetcar contract, it must draw up a response within a week. Large national and international companies that operate transit systems also are eying the Milwaukee contract.
