Caterpillar confidenttax strategy is OK

Caterpillar Inc. believes it is likely to convince the Internal Revenue Service that the company's tax strategy of shifting profits to a European subsidiary was within the rules. The Peoria-based maker of mining and construction equipment's taxes for 2007 and 2008 are still being audited, and the company says it will appeal if the IRS rules against the tax strategy, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing a securities filing.
